Making a List

Today has been a great day.  I am finally finished up with everything that I need to personally do for the Coastal Community Church website.  Now it is just up to The A Group, who by the way is phenominal to work with, to finish writing all of the code and hopefully we will have our site up by mid June.  I can’t wait for this piece of the puzzle to be put into place.  I never really realized how much work went into writing content, laying out sections and shooting videos for a website.  I have a new found appreciation for the people who do this.

checklist1I don’t know if you are like me but I like to check things off my list as DONE.  I am not one of those guys who just puts a nice little check next to the completed project, I am the guy who scribbles it out until the pen cuts through the paper.  There is something about accomplishing a task that is so fulfilling.  I feel like I have just conquered the world but I have only really finished up a website.  I think God designed us with this internal device that wants to accomplish.  What happens so many times though is that we get caught up in so many projects that we finish none and then we feel overwhelmed.  I think that this is one of the ways that the enemy gets to us and steals our joy.  He gets us going 100 miles per hour and before long we are out of control and getting a ticket of some major anxiety in our life.  We get so caught up in so many things that we can’t sort out what we are to do next and before long we are just defeated.  Paul talks about this very thing in Philippians 4:6-7

“Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.”

He says to us to not get caught up in so many things that we lose control and worry.  He tells us some practical truths here to help us accomplish more and freak out less.

  1. Have petitions, in other words make a list.  I think we get so spiritual sometimes instead of just being really practical.  God wants us to have a clear vision about what we are trying to accomplish so we need a plan and that is where the list comes in to play.
  2. Pray, we need to bring God into the situation to know where to go first.  I know that each one of us want to do the easy things first but I believe that if we let God take control and guide us then we will not do just the easy but the strategic.
  3. Everything coming together, as we start accomplishing our tasks that are listed out instead of trying to hold them in our head we will find peace, accomplishment and be settled in our situation.
  4. Center of your life, what will happen is worry will stop controlling your decisions and Christ will take back over as the center of your life.  That is the sweet spot of life where we accomplish more, make wise decisions and do great things for God.

I want to encourage you to slow down and take some time to write out all the things going on in life that you are holding onto and allow God to take His place as the center of your life to lead and guide you and find everything coming together for good.

Wow. It's Quiet Here...
