Relationships

friendship2This past weekend at Coastal Community Church I talked about our need for relationships in our life.  This is probably the thing that I am most passionate about in life.  I know that I am who I am today because of the people who I have surrounded myself with over the last couple of years.  I know that for many people it is hard to find the kind of people that can move you towards the destiny that God has for you.  I am so thankful to the men who have walked with me through the good times, the bad times and everything in between.

I want to encourage EVERYONE and I mean EVERYONE to find some people in life who will encourage, build you up, stand with you, give you a kick in the butt, push you towards your dreams, hold you accountable and most importantly love you.  If you don’t know where to find people like that, I would encourage you to get involved in a small group at church.  I know that for us at Coastal Community Church we will have the opportunity to sign up for small groups again this Sunday, January 31st after the service and all the groups will be starting next week.  Find some place to jump into relationships with others and see how God transforms your life to look more like the life you have always dreamed.

Haiti

haiti_quake_31haiti_quake_03haiti_01The devastation in Haiti is unbelievable.  I have been on the phone all day trying to figure out what is the best way that we can make a difference to the people who have been affected by this disaster.  I know that the Convoy of Hope and Samaritan’s Purse are doing some amazing work in Haiti and are on the ground helping people out who have lost everything.  Either one of these organizations are a great place to invest in as they help assist those in need and start to rebuild all that has been torn down.

I know that everyone wants to do what they can to help and I totally encourage each one of us to get involved.  I also know that the devastation that has occurred will still be in place in a month from now and our opportunity to go will still be there.  We are working on setting up a trip for a team to go down to Haiti to help clean up and rebuild the things that have been destroyed.  Keep checking back as we establish dates and a place where we can go to make a big difference in peoples lives.

Prayer

I was at our prayer meeting this morning and something really hit me hard.  While some would say that I am a professional Christian and this is something that I should be really good at, I am not.  I am really bad at this whole prayer thing.  It is not that I don’t believe in the power of prayer or even want to pray, I just find that it is typically my last resort to a situation to say, “I should pray about this.”  I don’t know why that is, it just is.

  • The reasons I don’t pray more:
  • It is easier to just complain about the situation
  • It is easier to talk to someone else about it
  • It is easier to just deal with the situation on my own
  • It is easier to deny the situation
  • It is easier to try to rely on myself rather than God
  • It is easier to stay in bed than get up early and pray

During this week of prayer and fasting God put on my heart that I need to wear out the carpet at the office in prayer.  When I pray I am one of those guys who paces back and forth, back and forth, back and forth.  I got a picture of that path of carpet being worn out by the end of this year because I committed myself in prayer for this community.

How do you feel about prayer?  Is it something that gets you all excited to go do or is it a chore for you at times as well?

I know that I will probably catch some slack for this post but while I might be a pastor, I am not perfect and don’t have it all figured out.  I am still working on my life and my relationship with God and a continually growing.
