I have to agree. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday as well. Mostly it's because growing up that was one of the 2 times per year that the entire family got together, and we'd have 4 generations in one place. That's what I'm thankful for: the amazing family that God gave me and the hilarious stories about my great-grandmother locking my great-grandfather in a closet because she wanted him to stay home and he wanted to go hunting, so she locked him in a closet until he gave in.

That is an awesome shout out because Wayne honestly is the man. I can say this from having worked with him, he sacrifices like a champion to see these kids grow and it is also a joy to see it starting with his own children.

I am praying for coastal, we miss you lot! (no, that wasn't meant to say, "a lot")

Wow, that is a very complete answer :) But I think it's cool that you're so open. At my home church, as you can imagine, we struggle with many of the same issues and same preconceived ideas about what responsibility people should have, etc.

I think your solution of just being honest and not shying away is the best. It works for my home church as well. Finances aren't easy to talk about (my pastor makes the point that a recent poll showed the average American would rather tell you their weight than their salary), but just because it's a difficult topic doesn't mean we can run away.

In many ways, the churches that aren't willing to be open and discuss the need for money are the ones that seem the hardest to trust. Not that they're dishonest, but just that I agree there's value in knowing your pastor is willing to say you have a responsibility to give, because if he'll say something that hard, he's probably telling the truth about his feelings and thoughts.
