Shattered Dreams Part 1

I loved the first week of our new series SHATTERED DREAMS.  If you happened to miss it, I just wanted to give you a few highlights of what we are talking about.

In life, I believe we all have dreams that never materialized, unmet expectations, and hope that has been lost.  It is in those times that we have a couple of options if we are aware of what is happening to us.

This first week we talked about King David and the process of your dream.  It goes a little something like his story in stages:

DREAM: Samuel comes to David and says you will be king- the dream is born.

HOPE: David defeats Goliath, becomes a national hero and marries King Saul’s daughter, hope is born by him thinking this might happen.

THREAT: King Saul wants to kill David and all of a sudden his dream is threatened.

TRUST GOD or CONTROL CIRCUMSTANCES: When our dream is threatened and all dreams have threats, we can choose to Trust God or Control Circumstances and David chooses to try to control.

My question for you is, are you trying to control your circumstances or are you trusting God in the midst of the threat to your dream?

Quick Thought

I am a big fan of Monday’s.  I know most people dread their Monday based on the fact that they are going back to work but for me, Monday is my weekend.  It is the day that I take to refresh, restore and let’s just be completely honest, do nothing.  It is what the Bible calls the Sabbath, a day of rest.

I think that it is so important that we all have a day each week of rest.  Our lives are so busy today.  We have got cell phones, laptops, pager’s (if your old school), wireless internet and we are constantly connected to so many things that we forget that we need a time to disconnect and rest.  God, the creator of the universe, realized this when He said on the 7th day He rested.  There is probably a good reason He rested, He had done lots of work.  Sound familiar?  If God needed to rest, don’t you think you probably need to rest?

Do yourself a favor, find a day once a week to rest.

Vintage Jesus

I have been having a blast with this series VINTAGE JESUS.  I truly believe that so many times we do not have a clear and defined picture of who Jesus is to us and it hurts our relationship with God.  So many times we define our relationship with God based on the relationships we have had here on earth.  The problem with those comparisons is that so many of our relationships here on earth are screwed up.  Think about it, the world would be perfect if people were not involved but they are, and we mess stuff up.  God on the other hand is perfect and he does not mess anything up.  So you can see how by having an unclear or undefined relationship with God our natural tendency is going to be to compare him to the best person we know and they always fall short.

The better the understanding we have of who Jesus is and who he is not is going to help us live more fully devoted to Him.  I love when Jesus asks his disciples, “Who do you say I am?”  It is the question that you and I need to continually ask ourselves, “Who is Jesus to me?”

Is He your SAVIOR?

Is He your HEALER?

Is He your REDEEMER?

Is He your HOPE?

Is He your FRIEND?

Who is Jesus to you?

Car Guy

I love cars.  It is one of those downfalls that I have in life.  I particularly like fast cars but am enjoying the Jeep Wrangler that I drive.  I saw this video about a minivan, now I know that no car person should ever like anything associated with a minivan but I have got to share this with you.

Status Quo

Do you ever have those days where you are just not satisfied with anything?  It doesn’t matter how good it was or is, it just is not good enough.

I seemed to be trapped in that day today.  I was looking at this blog site today and am just tired of it.  It is a great wordpress blog that has had a lot of thought and time put into it but it is just boring to me.  I believe that it is time for a change.  I have been feeling this way for quite some time but instead of doing something about it, I have just been content with the status quo.  I have allowed the easiness of not doing anything to keep me from doing what I know I should be doing.

I find that this happens in my life a lot.  God is messing with me about an area of my life that isn’t necessarily bad or wrong but could be better.  Instead of doing something about that area, I am just complacent and allow it to continue down the path that it is already headed.  I can continue down that path and nothing bad is going to happen but at the same point, nothing great is going to happen either.  I am tired of living a complacent lifestyle in some areas.  It is time for a change.

Where are you complacent in your life right now?

What areas of your life do you need to change even though the status quo is just fine right now?

What are you going to do?
